Enactments in Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Dr. Deborah Farnsworth
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Psychoanalytic psychotherapists recognize that mutual influence impacts the treatment process. Mutual influence generates enactments which are emotionally intense joint creations stemming from the unconscious of both therapist and patient. Enactments are often both powerful and negative and often leave both patient and therapist feeling confused and stuck. “What just happened?” In this seminar we will look at the role of enactments in therapy, how to use counter-transference and the therapist’s self to work through the enacted material and create greater understanding and change for the patient.
