In preparation for the upcoming conference with Jonathan House (November 9, 2024), this course is designed to familiarize participants with some of the key revolutionary ideas of Jean Laplanche. Participants will be expected to do each week’s reading and be prepared for the discussion. Laplanches’s re-formulations of Freud‘s sexuality and early sexual development will be central to the course discussions. The sexualized implications for transference and countertransference will be central to discussions.
This course has five total sessions: October 3, October 10, October 17, October 24, and October 31, 2024.
Course Objectives:
- State the new foundation
- Explain the implantation of enigma
- Give two ways that sexuality is likely to show up in transference and countertransference
- Give two examples of ways that parental sexuality might be unconsciously projected into a baby
- State how many generations of sexual enigmas might be projected into a baby
- Explain how the enigmas are likely to be detected in the psychotherapy process
