Judy Zevin, PsyD

Dr. Zevin is a graduate of the USC School of Social Work, a California Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has a Psy.D in Psychoanalysis from NPI. She has many years of clinical experience with a variety of individuals, families, and couples. She also has extensive inpatient and outpatient, supervisory and teaching experience.

About this Course

This course provides a Self Psychological/Relational approach to healing with an emphasis on clinical application. There will be an expectation to come prepared having read two articles on Self Psychology and relational Theory with some case material in mind. We will study the articles together and I will illustrate with case material. There will be the opportunity for class members to consider their own work in light of our reading and discussion.

Course Objectives
  • To introduce and explain the language and elemental concepts of Self Psychology, including self-object, transmuting internalization, mirroring, idealizing, twinship transferences, etc.
  • To integrate and utilize these concepts to think about the relationships we have with our patients and in understanding human behavior.
  • To introduce and utilize the language and concepts of Relational Theory and how it is based on the ideas and concepts of Self Psychology.
  • To make use of these concepts in understanding our work with our patients.
