About Jonathan House:

Jonathan House worked as a cab driver, a truck driver and a short-order cook before becoming a physician.  He first specialized in internal medicine but left clinical practice to work full-time for the labor movement; after a decade, he returned to medicine. Wanting to be a psychoanalyst but fearful that psychoanalytic practice might not work out, he re-specialized as a psychiatrist thinking he could always push drugs.

He trained as a psychoanalyst at Columbia’s institute.  At Columbia he taught widely including courses on technique, on development, and for 15 years was co-chair of the year-long Freud course.  At Columbia’s Institute for Comparative Literature and Society he taught graduate seminars on Freud and on Laplanche. He has lectured and taught widely at psychoanalytic institutes. Most recently, he gave the inaugural Coralie Trotter Memorial lectures in South Africa.

Laplanche appointed him to serve on the Conseil Scientifique of the Fondation Laplanche where he has been responsible for translations of Laplanche’s work into English.

He is the founder and General Editor of The Unconscious in Translation – a catalog of UIT books may be found at UITBooks.com
