Certificate Programs in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (Adults) and Advanced Concepts in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Newport Psychoanalytic Institute offers two one year certificate programs designed to enhance the practice of psychotherapists by integrating classical and contemporary theories of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Program Structure

Didactic Seminars: Focus on models of the mind, psychoanalytic techniques, and theoretical aspects.

  • Theory Seminars: Cover intrapsychic processes, biological, psychological, cultural-social factors, affect regulation, developmental theories, dreams, and primitive mental states.
  • Technique Seminars: Cover clinical encounter essentials, engagement, frame and boundaries, transference, countertransference, enactment, and thinking psychoanalytically.

Clinical Experience & Supervision: Participants present their cases to senior faculty and graduate analysts, applying their coursework practically.

These programs provide a comprehensive blend of theory and practical application, enabling participants to develop a deeper understanding and proficiency in psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Models of the Mind (20 weeks)
