COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will provide students with psychoanalytic insights and ideas regarding substance abuse/addictions. Applications of these concepts will be discussed using clinical work from the instructor, as well as from class participants.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
- Explicate the contribution of psychoanalysis to the field of substance abuse and substance addiction
- Describe how these ideas broaden treatment options in working with substance abuse and addiction.
- Identify when psychoanalytic thinking can best influence the clinical treatment of clients suffering with substance abuse and addiction.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Holly Han, PsyD, MFT has been in clinical practice for 20 years. The majority of her work has involved treating clients struggling with substance abuse and addiction—in incarcerated settings, residential rehabilitation, and on an outpatient basis.
