When Pastors Prey: Psychoanalytic Perspectives on Clergy Abuse
November 17, 2018, in Orange with Glenda Corstorphine, PsyD, LMFT

This course examines the history and ongoing problem of clergy sexual abuse in Catholic and Protestant churches and how therapists can understand the complexities when working with survivors of clergy sexual abuse. We will look at the church from a systems perspective and also consider transference issues toward the Pastor/Priest. Different types of clergy perpetrators will be described as well as the psychology of the survivor. Case examples will be used to discuss helping clients to heal and how to navigate legal issues.
